  my hubby's aunt died, she was an old maid jw.

  very kindly thing, but distanced herself from the rest of the family, no jw's.

  I'll cautiously join the 'yes' side.

  1. If its only the hall they're using, that might not be as bad as the worship area.

  2. They're not going to get preached to.

  3. I had a friend whose gran was a JW, said friend and her mum had converted to the RC church and there was no way they would have the grans funeral in the Kingdom Hall. All the JW's attended the funeral at the local catholic church (ok they were last in and first out and stood at the back but they went). I'd think (may be wrong) that to go into a Catholic church would be more taboo than another church that doesn't have all the statues and things.

  shera - now I've had chance to look around it, this site is BRILL!!! I discovered there's quite a lot of games from another site (which shall remain nameless!) but on that one you have to register to play some of the games, on yours, you don't, which is great cos I can now play Mahjhong (?sp) my absolute fave game without having to register.

  I also recruited two new users for ya - they've been instructed to click the ads

  Insecure posters

  i wonder if it's just me, or if other posters are like this.

  do any of you start to type a post, then hit the back button, or quit your post because your afraid of saying something stupid or "wrong," or reread some of your previous posts and wonder, what you were thinking when you posted it?.

  i find most people on this board more than willing to accept you for whatever you say in a post, but i still frequently shy away from hitting that 'submit post' button.. rose (pushing the submit button before chickening out again)

  Cheers IP, yes I suspected that was the case! I seriously didn't know what those things meant though - another of my insecurities when I first started posting was I wondered if I was doing something wrong because nothing ever appeared on mine!

  I'm not as insecure as I was at first. I'm learning to sit and think about what I'm writing now - only thing is, it usually takes me about half an hour to decide whether I've written the right thing!

  (5 minute pause here to decide whether that sounds right!)

  Part of my problem is that I'm useless at conversation (this is where I'm finding JWD very helpful) - so, if anyone out there doesn't get a reply when they're expecting one from me, I apologise!! Maybe one day you won't be able to shut me up!

  Rod P - That's a brilliant post, I'll maybe save that somewhere for reference.

  IP_SEC - what is all that stuff at the bottom of your post next to the IP address? How does it get there? Is it because you've edited? (sorry, didn't think it needed a seperate thread!)

  i don't know what kind of a ""christian"" (i don't label myself as one) i am, as i feel that if for certain reasons one doesn't believe in a god, because there is a lack of evidence - he isn't gonna condemn anyone.

  because you believe in ra/ vishnu or whatever other god doesn't mean you are under condemnation.

  but there needed to be authority and order for this all to work. ergo, the birth of morals.

  Would you say that the authority they 'looked to' or 'created' would have been a god who 'made the rules up' and subsequently 'ruled' them by fear?

  On the Dawkins quote, yep, the more I read it, the more it kind of makes sense! So what you're saying is that if I went back a few thousand years, the technology would be more primitive but people would be behaving the same?

  I'm not too sure whether I fully agree with it though. If an alien arrived with no idea of what we call good, bad or indifferent, then it would look like its how things were 'created' (using the term loosely!) because they don't know how it was before. But if they visited the earth at two different points in time, they might see that morals had developed.

  Or - are they saying that the concepts of good and evil exist only because humanity has defined it as such? *hears the sound of a penny dropping*

  ok, I think I might be starting to contradict myself here! It's too close to midnight, I'll have to sleep,read again and rethink in the morning!

  next week dansk (ian) is going into the hospital to start chemotherapy.

  I think how you put it is brilliant LouBelle. I was reading something this morning which said more or less the same - Is hell going to be empty?

  He is an all knowing God, he reads hearts/ knows circumstances & is a God of grace

  That's what really counts. He alone knows our intentions. Those who have done truly terrible things in this life will be faced with their actions when they meet Him and either feel the pain of true sorrow for their realised sins and ask forgiveness or they will show nothing and go to hell. (Blimey, I'm agreeing with something David Icke teaches )

  google - I think the world would be much worse without 'a god'. As far as I know, most of the morality codes have been developed from religions regardless of whether the god really exists - he exists at least for believers. Without these guidelines I reckon we'd all be living by the law of the jungle - but with all the weaponry on the planet I think we'd have wiped ourselves out by now.

  one of the best quotes I ever heard - so much that I remembered it!:

  'A text taken out of context is the pretext for a prooftext'

  I reckon everyone does it to some extent when they're debating a particular point. I don't recall seeing any ridiculously out of context quotes on here though - nothing along the lines of using the verse 'Judas went out and hanged himself' as a biblical proof that suicide is ok!
